RIP Auxiliary Out Radio Programme

Congratulations to Drew Dahle the host of Rainydawg's experimental music show "Auxiliary Out" for completing his undergraduate degree! Unfortunately, since Drew is no longer a student at UW, he will no longer be able to host his show. I'm happy for my friend, but sad to see my favorite program on Rainydawg going the way of the dinosaur. Drew says he will keep pumping out the reviews on his blog. Let's hope so, and if everyone bugs him enough it may be possible to convince him to start a podcast.

If you haven't read his insightful and well composed music reviews you should, and while you are at it download a few of his old broadcasts, they are filled with great stuff. If you are anything like me and enjoy experimental music, but don't have the patience to wade through most of the mediocre stuff that is out there, Auxiliary Out consistently played music that was worth the effort.

Multiple tracks by bands from Australia and some hits from the Drone Errant Cassette label this week. I recently picked up a clean copy of the Saints long player Eternally Yours on the cheap (well the cover was trashed, but the vinyl was clean). My new copy, made me love this album even more. Today’s show features (almost) bookends of Private Affair and This Perfect Day. Other Australian music includes The Scientists talking about a demolition derby, and Melbourne’s Woollen Kits doing a swinging number about Tasmania. Two new singles by L.A. based Lamps hit my mailbox this week. The Dull Knife 7” is a must own, but do pick them both up. The song titles alone are worth the purchase price (Fan Death Records put out the other single). Thanks for listening to the show – now go Kill Someone You Hate, okay.

Rib Cages are coming to Seattle on March 21st. They will be playing at the Comet with Le Shat Noir. The Portland band will also be recording an in-studio for The World is a Drag. Unfortunately, that is the first Saturday of spring break at UW, so there will be no show for two weeks. The in-studio will air when the studio reopens on April 3rd.

Their new 7" on Lemon Session is available for order through the label's new singles club. Copies are also available directly from the band. Check out their self-released cassette: Will Beg 4 Money (also available from the band). This is their first recording featuring Josh from Octagon Control on bass.
